J.L. (Janet) McNaughton is a Canadian author now based in Nova Scotia. Her debut novel, Before The Dawn, was published in 2014 by Friesen Press — the first in The Bloom Trilogy following James, a shy teenage misfit, on his journey into the fantasy world of Terrain. The second book in the trilogy, Always Darkest, will soon be published by Friesen Press.
Before The Dawn was more than three decades in the making, written while raising two children, working full time and completing a university degree. It was launched when she lived for 20 years in Northern BC, in Fort Nelson and then Fort St. John, before moving to Nova Scotia in 2015 where she lives in a tiny village on the Bay of Fundy.
